If you have decided to move your hosting provider and set up a new account but have not moved your domain name yet there is a way to map your domain name in windows to your new IP address at your new host account.

This means that if you open your browser on your PC and type in your domain, instead of it going to your current host, the browser will instead visit your new IP address host.

So all we are doing is mapping your new IP address to your domain name, but only locally on your PC.

This can be done by editing the Windows hosts file.

Usually found at:

C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetchosts

Then add the following lines:

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx www.domain.com
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx domain.com

Then save the file, and once you have moved your domain across to the new host, remove the lines from the file.
