Oracle Automatic Storage Management explains how to build and maintain a dynamic, highly available Oracle database storage environment. The book contains 12 chapters in all, beginning with the storage stack overview which covers disk interfaces like SATA, PATA and SCSI and SAN components. The book then talks about installing, upgrading and securing ASM. It also tells you about preparing storage arrays and setting up disk groups including ASM redundancy and failure groups.
There is also a useful chapter about running and using ASM on the command line. A large part of the book is given over to managing databases in ASM. There are also five appendices including ASM and storage array configurations, troubleshooting ASM, scripts and tips as well as typical ASM disk group commands and a reference section.
Overall Oracle Automatic Storage Management is a concise book on ASM and has enough useful images and screenshots to help you out complete all your ASM tasks. The book is very readable and not too long or bulky at around 330 pages. This is a great book if you need to know about Oracle ASM whether it is on Oracle 10g or 11g.
