A must buyI had a Kodak DX6490 point and shoot camera and was hungry for more creativity. I bought a Canon EOS 450D DSLR and realized that there's no point in using it if I do not switch to manual mode. Well , here comes this book to my rescue. It gave me super confidence on stuff like shutter speed, f stops, ISO etc. I don't shoot in auto mode anymore. While, I am no expert , but my photos draw some attention. After reading this book I was confident in selecting a filters and additional lenses. If you have just upgraded from a point 'n' shoot to DSLR and want to shoot yourself (manual mode), then , this is it.
Excellent introduction to photographyThis book is beyond any doubt the best photography book for beginners I've ever read. It explains how to make a correct exposure in simple terms easy enough for a complete novice to understand. It then goes on describing "creatively correct" exposures by showing which apertures or shutter speeds are used for various types of subjects (e.g. storytelling exposures, singular item/isolation exposures, exposures which imply motion or those which freeze motion, etc.). It does a good job at explaining the basics of depth of field, although the concept of hyper-focal distance would have benefited from some more exploration. Finally, it also explains how to measure various types of light, how light meters work and where to point your camera to measure the light. You can easily read this book in an afternoon. Whilst it will not make an expert photographer out of you, it is likely that you will never want to use the automatic exposure function of your camera again.
Excellent read. Very good book.I bought this book on a recommendation from an experienced photographer friend and would now strongly recommend it to anyone new to photography. Its an easy read which should take no more than a few hours to read through and will give you the knowledge you need to start taking creative photos immediately. A very good read. Excellent explanations and very quick results (for me). You might soon be taking the majority of your photos on manual exposure and knowing exactly what to do.
The best photographic foundation to build onSimply an outstanding book, cover-to-cover packed with practical advice, creativity and inspiration. The amount of knowlegde passed on in this book is just incredible, this really is a must have book for anyone starting out and an excellent and inspirational reference book for professionals.
