Make this the first nursing book you buy!!I am a first year student nurse and have bought quite a few books since i started. I really wish I had bought this one first, it would have saved me a small fortune!
The book is AMAZING! It covers so much: Laws and the NMC code, Self awareness, Holistic Nursing, Anatomy and Physiology, Clinical skills! It is proving extremly useful for my two first year assignments and is a brilliant reference tool for clinical skills whilst on placement.
It is a large(ish) book, so not something I am going to carry round all day every day in my bag, but I don't really think that is much of a problem.
Definitely make it one of the first books you buy...
Must have for any nursing student.I am a first year Adult Nursing student, and have already referred to this book several times to answer my questions. It's also a massive reference for my first assignment. It's easy to read and incredibly informative. If you are going to buy any book in your first year, make it this one!
A good all round book for students! Nursing Practice, Fundamentals of Holistic Care:
This book is written specifically for nursing students, and being a student nurse myself, I would highly recommend to fellow students. The book is spilt into four sections; Nursing and Health in the 21st Century, Professional Practice, Nursing and Lifespan implications and Developing Nursing Skills.
Each of the main sections are broken into chapters and focus on various issues and topics surrounding nursing. The book is geared for students as it covers the majority of subjects which are taught in theory for example health promotion. As well as covering subjects useful in theory blocks, it also covers a wide range of clinical skills for example catheters. The book goes into great detail of how to complete the clinical skill, rationales of why you do a particular way and theory behind it.
The book is based upon holistic care which is cruical when nursing and a major part of the current nursing degree. Don't be put off by the size of the book as it is easy to navigate and allows the reader to pick it up and quickly find what they are looking for.
I would highly recommend to first year student nurses who want a book which covers nearly everything, in a simple and straight forward manner.
An excellent foundation for the consideration of holistic care. This textbook was written with Nursing Students in mind and it certainly doesn't fail.
With so much focus being on holism this book is a great textbook for a foundation year, detailing nursing as a current profession with a key focus on health promotion, ADL's, how to develop your skills safely detailing nursing assessments and conducting effective admission interviews.
Four key sections detail nursing in the 21st century, professional practice, nursing and lifespan implications and the development of nursing skills.
The final section details areas of nursing that first year students will encounter in placement, such as baseline obs, infection control, administration of medicines, pre-surgical care, wound management and pain, all alongside ADL's.
Whilst this book is a wealth of information it is an ideal text, it is at times a little too detailed and it is certainly a bulky and cumbersome text that to simply pick up and thumb through is a physical challenge! However, you will use this as a valuable resource and will put it back on the shelf when that has been accomplished!
It has many opportunities within the text to consider reflective practices and details the all important evidenced based practice.
I would recommend this book for both first and second year nursing students as a pertinent resource to support study.
great price!a great book for a fraction of the cost it was going for at my university's bookstore. the item was delivered on time and in perfect condition.
