Superb resource for quick, no-nonsense factsThis is an excellent, down to earth guide to all modern drugs (including alcohol, nicotine and even caffeine) and a superb resource for anyone working with drug users. Well researched and filled with useful information, the book never wavers from its easy to read, easy to understand, straight to the facts tone.
The thoroughness of this Tyler's book leads me to believe that even the most knowledgeable drug worker could find new things to learn and I'm surprised this book hasn't been updated since its 1995 publication (at least according to Amazon). (Which isn't to say that I found the book lacking - just that an update might well be needed as new things may have come to light.) I think this book is indispensable for anyone who needs to know about drugs and needs to be able to talk about them with some authority.

Excellent essay helperI am a general nurse that while looking to better my self deceided to read this book to help me better understand the issues surrounding drugs and the patients in my care. I found this book incredibly informative and interesting, it lead me to look further into this field and I am now stugying to degree level. A fantastic book for both the novice, the interetsed and those looking to work in the area
Frank, well written, educating, A MUST!!!!From the start of this book I found the written style relaxed and very readable. Andrew Tyler's background from working the 'front line' on the battle against the many drugs (and their devastating effects on the 'user' and their family),that are on the UK's streets really shows. If you ever wanted to know about any mood altering chemical, what its made of, how it makes people feel, and the short, medium, and long term effects, then look no further.
Please please dont take that to mean that the book promotes or glorifies any durg or its use....for me the book gave an adult, readable, free of bais account of 'how it really is'....A MUST FOR Teenagers, Parents, Teachers, Students.!!
